Being one of the 17 most mega-diverse countries, and sheltering an approximate of 1,600 species of birds, Ecuador can also boast 3,600 species of orchids, and 400 species of mammals. Approximately 24% of our national territory is protected area, and together with our ancestry, customs, and traditions Ecuador has become one of the most important touristic destinations within the western hemisphere.
